I was visiting my LCS the other day, and the dealer told me the sad story of a customer who bought some fake silver bars on ebay. This was one of them. Some of the others had "100 mils" marked on them, but this one did not. However, see the writing on the back-it says "in clad we trust".

Sorry that the images are horizontal. They are vertical in the original -I am not sure how to correct that.

It's bad when the thieves know they can laugh at you while picking your pocket.

This is just a subtle way of keeping 'honest'.
The suggestion, when you realise it, is that this piece is clad as well, and not of pure homogenous silver.

sel_691, it is clad, so the inscription makes it "plausible" that it was just a hair under complete dishonesty.

Well, the 'obverse' of this bar screams '1 Troy OZ .999 silver', which shouldn't leave much to the imagination and probably is sufficient for most people. The 'in clad we trust' doesn't make it 'honest' in any way for me, more like arrogance on the forger's side. 100 mils actually is a bit more honest (depending on how it's being put on the bar, though).
