Just got an email from the admin! The term is in the glossary.Check out my definition. It can now be used by the new collectors to get a better grip on damage that happened after it left the mint. PSD is in! Edit: Just realized it is not my full definition, just shortened Edited by Dustin6 11/22/2016 3:38 pm

Just my opinion, but I think it will confuse people more, especially new members.

Where is the PSD definition? I see this Quote: Short for post mint damage. Damage sustained after the coin was struck.

You'd have to be a dues-paying CCF union member to cash it anyway.

Quote:bpoc1, PSD is distinguished from PMD in that PSD can happen at the mint after the coin was struck. Yes, however the glossary definitions for PMD and PSD are the same. PMD needs to be revised. These are the definitions that I'm seeing currently: PMDShort for post mint damage. Damage sustained after the coin was struck. PSDShort for post strike damage. Damage sustained after the coin was struck.

We can now add the PSD/PMD debate to the penny/cent and double/doubled die wars.

Glad to see it in the Glossary as its use is growing more everyday. Anyone that follows or has research the archives here, will see coop has been pushing this term into our collective for sometime. I think Condor101 shared some useful info into the orignal meaning for PMD and its use today. By the early standard the two terms (PMD/PSD) mean the same thing. Thanks, Doug. http://goccf.com/t/271832

PSD and PMD mean the same thing. PSD came about because the name PMD is misleading. The name sounds like it's referring to damage that had to occur after the coin left the mint. Dustin if you reread that other post, you'll see I was the one that recommended putting it in the glossary. When you get your check half is mine. lol

Yes I know you were the one Jim, I thought I mentioned it but I guess not. Now this is just a feeling. Nothing else. But I think, that maybe, just maybe I wont be getting a check. Solely because The mods do not have my address. But again that is just a notion! LOL

As pointed out, there is a major difference in the connotation and denotation of the term post-mint damage. However, it is only confusing to have two terms for the same phenomenon that have very different denotations.
I believe there is value in separating the two terms into their literal meanings, though I think it may be a little too late....
