Would you keep it. I just found a mint $100 bill (newest series) with the serial number 07101776 on it. Of course the most desirable would be 07041776. I have searched a lot of currency and I have only found 1776 at the end or beginning of a note like three times. To have 07 for July and then 10 (for the tenth) of 1776...I almost think I can't pass up on it. Would you keep it as a ''what could have been'' note, or is this too much to hold on to? Would there be any premium? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Sorry, but I don't have a photo yet.

I would not keep it and am unable to see the attraction to notes that are "almost" significant, especially on a $100......a one dollar bill, maybe, but not $100.

Close but no cigar. I've got better uses for $100!

Post it on ebay if you have no want of it. What can it hurt? Listing is free and as long as you list it over face value plus shipping, you can't lose.

George Washington on 07.10.1776 wrote a letter to Congress saying that he had received the Declaration of Independence and that he would be using it to build morale with his soldiers. To me that seems like a pretty significant date in American history. Of all 96.000.000 notes that are printed only 31 are from 07.XX.1776, so it is about a one in 3 Million note find.

You can spin it anyway you want, but I seriously doubt if you show it to most people they aren't going to say, " Hey, isn't that the date Washington wrote that letter to Congress?" If you like it keep it Edited to add; I'm hoping my opinion isn't too harsh. Personally and respectfully, I would not pay above face for it, If I found it in circulation, I would spend it or give it away to another collector that had an interest in it. I do not see a premium for it, BUT, I've seen all kinds of serial numbers sell on ebay to people that just like certain serial numbers, so who's to say you can't make any money on it. All of this, and my birthday is 4th of JULY.

I am with the group ... almost but still missed it.. And it being a $100, that is a lot to keep. When I keep bigger bill like this, I end up spending them when a coin I want comes along. Sometimes I do things that make others wonder about .. I keep $1.00 notes that start with 19. Thinking maybe someday I will have notes from 1900 to 1999 ....

but keep it if you like it. It's your money/collection and you can do whatever makes you happy. to CCF, by the way, American Abroad! Hope you are celebrating Thanksgiving, that most American of holidays, over there in Germany.
