I got this out of the soda machine at work the other day. Is this just caused by wear, or what?

It could be a possible RPM, it's hard to say, better pics are needed.

There is absoutely no indication of a repunched mintmark there. Denver coins are very well known for 'filled' mintmarks throughout the late 1970s and that's all this is. The mintmark punches were nothing more than little blobs then. About half the time there was no center to the mintmark. Nice way of giving false hope people.

Thanks CC, I never thought that it was an RPM. I figured it was a filled MM, but was unsure how common they were.

I used to save those thinking they were error coins. Then as the amount grew excessively I realized no big thing and discarded most.

One of the hardest coins to find would be a 1979 D cent that didn't have a blob for a mintmark:-) It's pretty much the same for all denominations in the late 70s.

Thanks,
Bill
