I bought this a while ago (20 years at least) and it was white when I bought it. It toned in the intervening time. I collected about 20 years ago and picked it back up recently. My grading still sucks.

Beautiful though.

20 years ago, THAT toning was frowned upon.

Now, it is, almost, expected!! (not kidding!!)

i agree with the above, but will add the notation of reverse graffiti/scratches(looks intentional to me).

I like this one. Yes, it's been cleaned, but not harshly, and it's retoning very nicely.

High VF, 35.

What at first appears to be scratches on the reverse might be adjustment marks. From the photo it appears that the scratches go beneath the eagles head and neck, rather than across the fields and those elements.

I'd look at that area carefully to see if those scratches go under the eagles head and neck or appear to be raised above the fields rather than indented into those surfaces.

I'm not 100% sure about the cleaned part, but it does have some scratches that will keep it from getting a straight grade from a grading service.

These coins were oddly struck. As a result the sharpness grade is sometimes deceiving. This one is in an AU-53 PCGS holder.

Amazing how weak the head of the eagle is for an AU53.
