I have only 2 Wartime nickels, found them CRH. So I'm not very familiar with their appearance. 1.)I started out questioning whether their is a lamination error on the obv between the WE & TRUST. 2.)Then I wondered what caused the crack on the obv that extends from the E through his chin to his neck. This made me question the metal composition. 3.)Should these 35% silver coins have these striations. The pictures I see online do not look this coin. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

It is a common alloy mix error on the 35% silver War Nickels.

Good questions. The first time you find these War Nickels with all this splitting and splatting it can seem most unusual. Still a good coin to keep as an example of same.

It is a silver coin, so it is worth more than a nickel.

1 and 2 are the result of laminations, 3 the streakiness is the result of poor alloy mix which when rolled out results in bands of slightly differing alloy that tones at different rates giving you the streaks. (The poor alloy mixing of the War Nickels composition is also why laminations are so common on these coins.

with all the above ... and the apparent die crack on the reverse legends is also indicative of the emergency war time issue of these tremendous coins.
