HELLO! Just JOINED CC! A couple ?`s... WHILE TREASURE HUNTING (in residential trash) I FOUND an old rusty tool box with a padlock... after removing the lids` hinge rod, (my very smart son suggested), I find 100`s of US coins, mostly Lincoln Memorials, but think I may be in luck 50_1969 S & D, more 1970 & 1960 and strangely alot of 1980? 4 wheats pre 60, stragglers after 80 pretty much and a few pre 1960, some 71(2) 73(5) 74(3) 76(1) JFK Halves , dimes, just 5 quarters, abt 30 nickels, maybe 50 dimes. Any ADVICE on how to go about finding dd, errors, and such? ANY ADVICE would be much appreciated. THANK YOU!

It sounds like a nice hoard, although the majority of the coins you mention will probably be spenders.

This is a good question to post in the 'US Modern Error & Variety' forum. I'll just go ahead and say that the wheats (assuming they are common dates from the 50s) are probably worth about 2-3 cents each, and copper memorials (1959-82) are usually worth face unless you want to save them for the copper content. Dimes, quarters and halves struck 1964 or earlier are 90% silver, while 1965-70 halves are 40%. Jefferson nickels struck from mid-1942 to 1945 are 35% silver (look for a large mintmark on the reverse), while most others are worth face. There are some key dates in each series, so I'd suggest looking for those, particularly in the nickels (1938 & 39 D & S, 1950-D and others). You should, of course, save silver if you find any. All in all, the vast majority of these coins will probably be spenders, like moxking said.

THANK YOU TANMAN2001 and Debrajc and for the Welcomes jack j n j! Moxking and Numismas advice! So far I've found a 1975 D Nickel in EXCELLENT SHINY CONDITION with OMM x3! ALSO I THINK A 1972 DDR Lincoln Memorial cent And a 1973 Kennedy half that's off centre... Have it all, separated by dates now. Any specific big finds to look for just learning acronyms is a challenge! Lol AND what is best fastest way to identify Double Dies? Advice for time saving tips? THANKS ALL!
