Well they finally got the picture and description up on the US mint website for the last release of the year. Thought they would keep the price about the same since you're getting 1 less dollar coin this year but I guess the special 30th anniversary ASE was enough to warrant a slight price hike. You might actually be able to the see edge lettering better with this packaging than with the capsule that comes on the individual proof and uncirc versions.

The price does seem a bit steep, but I agree that they are counting on the 30th anniversary ASE to create demand.

With regards to the 2012 Annual Dollar set which has had the highest upside of all the sets, does anyone know why it had a lower mintage than the other years?

If I remember correctly there was n issue with spot silver being north of $30 so the Mint suspended sales but then decided not to reprice....and there were only around 27-28k sets made

I'll be getting one. I am a fan of the presentation and it's a relatively economical way to get the W ASE along with a few other coins.

Definitely a good pickup on the 10x 2012s, Fox. I'm glad I got my one. For some related photos, check out page 9 on the following thread. clairhardesty put together a very nice collage of all the sets to date. http://goccf.com/t/198653&whichpage=9The whole thread is worth checking out and -inducing if you haven't done so already.

I wish I could say that it was a strategic move but it was just a value play and a knee jerk order.
I have bought 5-20 of these since they have come out...I'll have to do an inventory and see exactly how many I have of each year...

On a sort of related note, the " America the Beautiful Quarters 2012 Circulating Coin Set" is the only one not still available from the mint. 2012 seems to be a great year all around for items selling for significantly more then original mint prices (except of course the ASE 2 coin set). Even the 5oz pucks have done well, especially Hawaii.

Some good designs (IMO) in 2012. Some unusual ones with El Yunque and Hawai'i. And I'm a huge fan of the Acadia.

Finally the last release of the year will be here tomorrow. For those who will be getting this, or anything else for that matter, US Mint is offering $10 off expedited shipping. Comes out to just $3 more than the basic shipping so probably worth it IMO.
