Thanks for the replies moxking, John1 and Biedercoins as well as the responses you gave regarding focus and where I may be having an issue.

The Ike is definitely the best. The tilt of a few of the coins, especially the quarter can probably be resolved by insuring the lens is parallel to the coin.
Yes moxking on the ike, the coin was parallel perfect with the camera on tripod, you are correct on the quarter and the half as I took those on an angle to try and catch the toning better.. After some extensive reading especially on photographing coins my understanding is the best and only way to do it and get quality results is with a straight on shot.

I'm thinking your focus problem is from not being (your sensor) parallel to the coin face. So the camera is picking a side and focusing on that.
Also keep your aperature closed as tight as possible; that Ike and F8 are pretty good, but if you have a lot of light, close it to at least F10. Exposure is pretty good.
Thank you for the response and yes I will experiment between F8-F10 and see how much the results differ with the current lighting setup that I have.

I am no pro but the first thing I noticed is all the pics seem a bit out of focus. Is that the right F stop for coins?

Hi John and thanks for the response. Yes F8 is where I should be for shooting coins and can probably get to F10 or 11 depending on lighting and Iso.. My initial settings were suggested to me by rpmsrpms in another thread I have a little further down the list... I agree the quarter, half and mercury are all out of focus and I am pretty sure the fact that those particular coins were shot on an angle not to mention not the best lighting setup at that time definitely had something to do with the focus issue.. Do you think the ike is out of focus as well? Thanks
