What a loaded question. You mentioned good in your question. A good coin is not a great coin. The grading scale is quite wide for coins:
http://www.PCGS.com/Photograde/#/Mercury/Grades
Using this link, you will see the different grades, from 1-70. Many will often use this guide to determine grades by seeing coin wear. But events happen to coins that would make the grade drop a lot. If the coin had damage on it, then it could be reduced to a cull coin (not really collectable). For example on your coin, the marks on the neck would be a deduction. Even when they are small like your coin has, it is still a distraction to a coin grader. If a coin is dropped and it damages the edge/rim or other surface, it is a deduction in value. So to ask if a coin is good, then that would be a lower grade. One that would probably not have the rims on the coin. Yours does have so it is not a good grade coin, but better than that term. So grading takes a long time to develop as a new collector. So looking at the link I posted, it will give you more of an idea of what grade your coin might be. People view grades differently. A seller will probably grade a coin two grades above and a buy will often grade a coin two grades lower. So it takes time to see what to look for, but worth the effort. (The coin is probably the grade between what the seller and buyer thinks it is.)

Looks about VF-30, maybe 35. A little hard to tell with the photos as they are not terribly sharp.

We all learn from everyone's questions and we are always happy to see more questions.

Appears to have some original luster. EF-45, maybe AU-50. Scans don't work that great for grading.

I'm with IndianGoldEagle. XF45 possibly AU50. Way too much detail and even a little luster for a VF coin.

You see what I mean Amber ; we all estimated our grades for your Merc. and it showed that we're calling it from between FINE & AU-50 so hey we are not all experts ,but we all share love for the hobby .

How the heck did that happen ?

the range of grades here is a little abnormal but because of the spread they are not going to help Amber on grading her coin. as stated drop the 2 high and 2 low and then average the rest Amber. doing that you are going to end up with an XF45 coin. hope that helps.
