Good eye.

I'm curious about the Lincoln statue on the reverse. Looks like a pin head with giant knees.

This looks like it may be post die clash with a tilted hammer die. There are a lot of heavy die scratches above the memorial and to the left top on the reverse. The abundance of cracks in the area also support this as well as the floating roof. If a hammer die tilted enough to affect only this region and crack the anvil like this, it probably shattered and was replaced. The Anvil was not so bad that some heavy filing couldn't get more life out of it. This is only a thought, but it seems plausible. Very cool coin.

Some of that may be light reflection. I am more curious about what is going on at the column (see arrow)

The mark between the columns Is part of a normal design on the 7th bay.

But there is also another issue with that area. While removing a clash on that area, the fields were reduced and with that field area removed (the bay) it leaves a raised area on that area of the design. So now it show the extended area you are seeing on the 7th through 11th bays. These are not extra columns, just altered fields on the die. (the bays on a Memorial dies are the outside edge of the die. thus any polishing on this area will affect the bays that were polished to remove a clash line)

Sometimes this die abrasion can reduce the size of the devices.

Hope this helps Pete.

It does help - I knew it was not an extra column - I had just never seen a curved area like that. Thanks!

Interesting set of die cracks. Don't recall seeing before.

1969 and 1970 LMC dies seem to be the two most common years that die abrasion produced the floating roof. I still wonder why or what changed during that time period?

Must of been clashing and polishing some dies left and right is all I can think of. One day maybe I'll start cataloging the dies, but not today. Thanks, Doug.
