Here's another nice looking coin I recently purchased. It has full cartwheel luster and is red and brown with blue, red and violet toning. There is more toning on the coin than the photos show. I hope the toning is original, and I have seen coins with similarly colorful toning, but I've been fooled before, so I thought I'd ask what people think. Paul Bulgerin

I don't think it's 'natural' Paul, it's got that 'pink' look.

I think I preferred it when Toned coins were considered to be unattractive and second rate, At least then there was no concerns about these "Cooked Up" toners that are now becoming far too commonplace

I have a 1902 that has the almost exact same toning. I haven't sent it off for grading yet, but the "jury" was about 50/50 on real vs AT. I'm leaning towards it being an honest coin.

The tough part about answering OP's question is that we don't know what the coin REALLY looks like. When it comes to the toning it takes an "in hand" evaluation to decide.

If I can get em for under ten bucks I'll buy em but otherwise cruise on by the listing.

Paul , I'm no expert on toned coins but I think this IHC has nice eye appeal . I'm hoping that you get a 100% conformation on it being naturally toned .

I agree with Kanga that you really have to have toned coins in hand to give a good opinion - BUT -
Since I rarely take my own advice...
Looks Natural. Does the color progress in a natural way, regardless of the origin? YES. Does the tops of the design elements show a slightly lighter color? YES. Is the toning splotchy, blotchy, or spotty? NO.
All the right answers for a pretty toned coin. Pretty does NOT equal AT.

It looks original to me. You see some pretty wonderful colors on high grade IHCs.

To me ....
It does not look like direct heat or chemicals were used ...
I would be leaning to natural toning.

Thanks for the responses so far.
I originally bought this coin to resell, but after seeing it in person I think I'll add it to my collection.
