One of the problems with buying coins you can't hold is that you're entirely at the mercy of the seller's photography, which in this case is rather inconclusive without a crystal ball and a fortune-teller. I'm up in the air on this one, but for a tiny premium above melt, it's not going to leave me out in the cold. Worst case scenario, it goes back in the hopper for bullion trading on more coins. 1947 Walking Liberty half dollar. Appears to be entirely toned, but I have a sneaking suspicion that's PVC residue lurking around Miss Liberty and the eagle. An acetone bath will be forthcoming once it shows up. My grade: XF and possibly details, but photos make it look anywhere from VF to AU. CCF grade: ? I would think EF-40 from those pictures, and most likely Details.

I am in at XF-45. Would like to see this one again once you give it a bath.

XF-40 here, and I think it might be some sort of something like PVC. Let it take a bath

Not so sure that's toning . looks more like an oil residue or PVC . The Acetone just might do wonders for this XF-45 Walker .

If acetone saves it from PVC heck and there is no significant pitting (although there may be), I'd say EF-40.
If the pitting is visible, EF details.

XF-45 if that residue comes off with acetone. Would love to see the post-bath photos.

The bad news: It was PVC, and much worse than the pictures. The good news: 30 minutes of acetone cleared it up. The semi-bad news: It's still not very pretty, but for $6 and change, I'm not exactly heartbroken. Looks XF, there is still a bit of luster in areas that were not damaged by PVC residue, mostly towards the reverse rims. Obverse still looks a bit dirty, might give it another go later, or maybe put it in the album with the reverse facing up...

Yup, the green went away, but what was underneath was not much better. I netted it XF details, stuck it in an envelope and put it away for now to see if it will get some semblance of toning.
