For the past 9 months I have been strangely absent from the forum but not far from the coin/currency world. In February I found myself reading more and more and more on fancy serial numbers. Over the years I have become fascinated by and started collecting the complex number patterns. But I noticed while reading and researching online that some sellers and collectors had different names or qualifications for different styles. The information was there but it seemed like a lot of collectors weren't on the same page. Even here on the forum I felt that there were opinions on what fit into each category but some definitions were broader than others. Sellers on ebay were a different story altogether. Calling absolutely anything a fancy serial number even though what they had listed in my mind was a spender. So I set out on a task to find a book about fancy serial numbers that could summarize for me and clear up a lot of the confusion.

...and when I couldn't find one I decided it needed to be written. So here we are almost ten months later. After countless overnight shifts researching, reading, writing, making graphs, cross referencing information, formatting, reformatting, starting over, and going down all the rabbit holes of all available information I could find I am finally in a comfortable place to reach out to the community.

I am currently polishing my final Draft, The book received it's US certificate of copyright a few months ago, I have the ISBN number, bar code and 2 versions of the cover design but need of some more pictures to use as examples.

I have taken scans of every fancy number I have and used the best of each type as examples but I don't have enough disposable income to purchase the high value notes that I need examples of. I have been producing this on a shoestring budget and don't have much to offer but I can offer the following to anyone who can help.

1. Photo credit in the book for the note a collector provides.
2. A special Thanks in the back of the book to those who made it possible.
3. A digital copy of the book (kindle version) as soon as it is available.
4. A physical Copy of the book with a random low (under 100) serial number. (all books will be serial numbered)
5. An additional physical Copy of the book with the same serial number as note you provided. (i.e. if your note is 12345678 I will serial number your book 12345678 for you to keep with your currency collection.) (if more than one of your notes is used then you will get one book for each note used.)
6. Once publication costs are paid off I will donate 5% of profit back to CCF as big thank you to everyone for their help.

If you have any of the following notes and wouldn't mind including them in the book please PM me and I can give you instructions on how to scan the notes so they look the same as the others. (You won't have to send the actual bills to me or anything, I just need their image) I will update the list as I get the notes I need. Thanks in advance!

A couple of notes.

First, when you are giving recognition, the most common place to do that is in the Forward of the book. The Forward usually includes Catalog Preparation, Recognition, and Dedication.

Second, it would be good to include the type of photo you need, such as jpeg (easy PDF conversion) and any file size requirements.

If you haven't found a publisher yet (I know Amazon is easy, but not usually the best for use on small run books) I'd do that first (there are a zillion on line) as some of them have pretty specific requirements for photo quality in order to be able to produce a good product.

Third, if you intend to hand write the serial number, just add an extra line for your signature - such as ___ of 100, Limited First Printing, First Edition ____________ (for signature). That adds a little and costs nothing.

Not sure if you only need ones or other denominations... I can offer a five dollars in VF with MK 44444448 B (series 2013) and a short ladder ten dollars in VF with JF 00000789 C (series 2009).

Thanks everyone for the responses, emails and suggestions so far.

I picked up an 8 digit serial number stamping machine a while back. (was hard to find an 8 digit). So I will number each printing, and have the numbers printed in each batch.
1st printing 500
2nd printing 2000 etc. (whatever the numbers turn out to be.)

It will also be available for digital download on kindle, and the library download system (i forget the name off the top of my head) but those won't be numbered obviously.

Regarding the book, is it really a "serial" number if the numbers are not serial? Just curious.
