I would like to learn more about errors so figure I had better just post some and learn from the vast experience here.

I am thinking this is a true off-center not a MAD, it is 10% off (coin measures 31.2mm and distance from coin edge to stamped edge is 3.1 at widest), and is correct weight coming in at 11.3g. Of note, the coin has no reeding on the edge anywhere. Condition is uncirculated, but there is some oddness most notably around Lincoln's chin and matching area on eagle's right wing (that is the wing on the left looking at it). Whether it is a technical broadstrike or not I still haven't figured out.

So, did I come close? Comments very much appreciated.

I think that every time I've seen an edge like the one on your coin it was the result of acid eating the ridges away. Acid would also explain the damage around the portrait.

If that's is the case, it seems to me you have a damaged error coin.

Seems to be off center. Slightly puzzled by zero reeding. Weakness showing through out as would be expected if missing collar containment.

Is that a die crack at the base of Kennedy's (not Lincolns) bust? Thanks, Doug.

Doug, Looks like a die crack to me below Kennedy (can you tell I work almost exclusively with Lincoln cents?) And what looks black in this photo is actually odd glare as that area is quite shiny, not colored at all. I need to get a close up of that area.

Here are close-up photos of the oddity. It seems to show a radiating pattern from center almost anywhere I see it on the coin. Again, it is shinier than the regular finish, and any color is purely reflection.

Typically, broadstruck or off center coins occur because the coin is not properly held in place by the collar. Since the collar is the part that causes the reeding on the coin, it would make sense for there to be no sign of reeding. This looks like a nice off center half.

It is a slight off-center with the collar not being in place Off center coins can occur withthe collar being either in place or not in place). If the centering had been just slightly better so that none of the design was missing it would have been an uncentered broadstrike and not an off-center.
