I was offered this coin today .. it was what I think is a good
deal, so I picked it up.

I think it is a Die pair #3, open to hearing opinions.
This one is very close to a missing "D" or Weak "D"
at least in my opinion.

Now .. what to do .. I don't have the 1922 Plain hole
filled in my Dansco, I do have a blank in there right now.

1922-Lincoln-Cent---What-To-Do.
Should I crack it out of the NGC holder and put it in the Dansco, or just leave the album and holder as they are.

Just asking opinions .. not sure what I want to do yet.

I don't really believe in the 1922 Plain thing just because Dansco put a slot in there. At no point did the US Mint ever intend to produce a 1922 Plain. So, I think you are free to put whatever you would like in there. A weak D shows the idea of the die deteriation as well as a plain. I have a mint token from the Denver mint in my 22 Plain slot, so that gives you some idea of my thoughts on the matter.

It looks like a weak D to me. If that's what NGC said, I would break it out and put it in your 1922 plain slot since it's a variety of that date. But if NGC authenticated it as a No D, I would leave it slabbed, because it would be more valuable that way. Agree it's probably die pair 3, although it's close to 2.

Looks like a nice example of a Weak D to me, and I would not crack it. Just leave as is, and find a 22 Plain for the hole if it's what you are looking for. Just my .02

What I do is If I have a slabbed coin and There is a missing spot in my dansco. I take a Piece of paper and write "In Slab" and put it in that spot.Excellent Coin!!

Usually I'm against cracking if there is any reason for the coin to stay encased.

In this instance it probably won't hurt.

Although I take photos of the obverse and reverse attach them to the same denomination, and put that in the dansco which satisfies the set and keeping the coin in the slab.

Just to be clear .. those saying to crack it ..

would put a weak "D" into the plain hole?

If I do not crack it .. I might do something like this ..

(what I did for my 1909 S vdb)

I am not a big fan of breaking open sets or slabs just to fill a blank in a book. If you have the coin slabbed or encased put a placeholder in the book that clearly identifies that you have it elsewhere. I do this for any of my higher-value coins (of which I have few), even those that I keep in 2x2's. I would prefer to have a protected coin that one in a book, especially if only one side is visible and unprotected.

What would be more impressive than a filled book would be a book filled with placeholders indicating that the collector has a slabbed coin. If I have a poor condition coin for the book that I am not worried about damage or wear then I might book it and keep the better coin protected.

If it was actually a 22 Plain, then I might say crack it, but it's not the correct coin for the slot, so why put it in, imho.

Since the 1922 plain is a variety anyway, I would have no problem putting a nice weak D into that slot. I like seeing the holes filled, and personally, I think having a placeholder and tag is somewhat distracting.
