From the article:
" ebay is giving buyers an incentive to give sellers bad ratings and to file complaints"

Although I don't favor ebay's methods, this strategy could be interpreted differently.
For instance, this may be an attempt to reverse buyer's aversion to leave any negative ratings at all. Guess how many eBayers are afraid to do that?

However, they might be overreacting, because they I can only guess they're doing this because of some "market study" that indicated a less-than-favorable trend in ebay's reputation as a place to buy. The cynical me does not think they're doing this to make ebay better, but to strengthen "their brand" etc (translation: stock price++). ebay will probably continue to "react" until everyone is chafed and alienated, lol. Just my irreverent .02, lol...don't take it as anything against good ebay sellers...whom I think are getting a bad deal.

I received one of these coupons recently. I had left seller positive feedback and strong positive in 3 of 4 DSR categories. I dinged the seller's DSR on very outrageous shipping charges. Then a week later, I got the coupon. I had no idea it was coming and didn't try to seek out getting a coupon. But I am planning to use the coupon, as it will wind up allowing me to get a coin much cheaper.

Once the coupon program really starts getting noticed, I do agree with many of the bloggers, that this could lead to more scamming by buyers- just leave one harsh negative (even if undeserved) in the DSR and get a coupon. I think that is a real shame- more power to buyers, less to sellers. Sellers cannot do anything to discredit a falsified DSR; in fact sellers that do a lot of transactions might not even be able to figure out which one gave the neg, because their DSR ratings probably won't move that much from a single low score.
