My $1.98 purchase. I was going to send this out looking for a P-01 grade but think the reverse is a bit too strong additionally, there is some light porosity on the obverse.

Based on this "enhancement" for the date portion of your coin I see a one followed by three eights. 1888.

Looks more like a 86 to me. The reverse only appears strong because of the circulation cameo.

I do think it might make FR-02. Not quite poor.

reverse AG-3 ,Net FR-2 .

I'm definitely seeing an 188, but I'm an oddball, I think the last digit is a 4. 1884 is my guess.

I included a lot of reverse pics because it shows a one year only variety. I bet Coinfrog knows!

Yeah, looks like it. It has the shallow N, and traces of the doubling are still there. I probably would have missed that one!

To me, it's the thickness of the lettering that stands out, highlighting where the doubling once was. This is a dramatic variety in higher grades, but if my guess is correct, I certainly have never seen one in this state.

This is the lowest grade of this I've seen. And yes 1865 DDR Fancy 5 S-2. This is the 5th one I've cherrypicked in the last 10 years. Hard coin to come by but not as hard as the 1870 S-5 that eludes me still to this day. Thanks for the comments!
