Pogue IV sale realizes $16.7 million even without selling its two top stars
http://www.coinworld.com/news/us-co...ion.all.html

Quote:
The total of the first four Pogue auctions now stands at $85,318,218.50, firmly establishing the Pogue Collection as the most expensive coin collection ever to sell at auction.

The next Pogue sale — Pogue V — is set for March 31 at the Carriage House of the Evergreen Museum and Library in Baltimore, coinciding with the Spring Whitman Coins and Collectibles Expo. It will be the first Pogue auction held outside of Manhattan.

Amazing! I wonder what the final totals will look like when all the coins have been sold.

As a novice collector, I'm not familiar with this collection, but all I can say is "wow".
Rest in Peace

I looked at a few coins that were in the Pogue III auction and even put in what I thought were "strong" bids. The coins went for way more than I was willing to spend and some even doubled the auction estimates. At least I was able to hold them for a brief moment.

I watched the 1804 dollar get bid up to $10MM and then pass. He bought it for $4MM, greedy guy. also the 1822 Eagle failed at around $7MM. That was an Eliasberg coin, but I can't remember what he paid for it. Does the estate need more money?
