hey bobby the dot.ca ebay site states the same policy, as the dot com site.. that the grader has to be recognized, see if this can be quashed..the grading numbers from an unrecognized grader have to be blacked out..and there is no way this is an ms-65.. 282308916173seller- nima2marcel *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

That's a can of worms best left unopened here for now. About 20% of all MS65 coins listed on ebay.ca do not adhere to ebay policy. Almost one-third of all MS63 and MS64 coins are in vioation of ebay policy. Why pick on one coin from one seller and one grader? What about the other 2600? Where would you draw the line bobby if you were to act on this?

It's not a counterfeit. Should remove the post.

The description of this section also says blatant policy violations. Quote:Forum Description: Report suspected ebay Canadian counterfeits here. You can also report fake errors and blatant policy violations.

I moved this thread out of the section for counterfeit coins. The coin is not counterfeit, it is the grade that is questionable.

I'm no expert but this coin looks jazzed up. The rim is all splotchy rust and the rest looks like a baby's bottom. And there's something about the 48 that really bothers me. Too "round", or something. The top of the 4 appears shaved off instead of having that distinctive point. Maybe just the bad photos. Edit - appears to have some die polishing marks that make it legit.

There are pages and pages of comments on this forum regarding ebay's policy for coin sales. Specific grades can only be advertised in the title of the item for sale if it's been graded by a TPG on their approved list? At one time ICCS was not approved and that was the main concern. It's obvious to anyone with even scant knowledge of the Sheldon grading scale that this particular '48 is not a MS65 coin. The large amount of artificial silver dip gloss on it is painful to the eye. At a price of $7000 the said grade is blatant misleading and false advertising - regardless of how it got in that holder, its well beyond buyer beware, it verges on fraud. I thought the intent behind ebay reporting was to assist in maintaining the good reputation of the hobby?

It's a centsles basement-graded coin and sold by a seller who has been discussed more than a few times as well. This has 11' pole marks all over it.
On the brighter side, Happy New Year to all you folks from me here in the Golden Horseshoe.

I asked the seller for better images. They said "after tomorrow" so we'll see.
Edit: Seller sent some other images but basically the same as the listing - low angle with lighting to obscure flaws. MS63 at best if it hadn't been messed with.

On a side note, I've never heard of National Numismatic Certification...who are they? Is this a real service or someone with a side business grading coins?

NNC is a "basement" slabber associated with ebay seller centsles. When they say MS63 you're lucky if the coin is AU. In my limited experience at least. But last time I checked their sales were over 180k. So people buy it.
