I haven't been collecting very long but I put in long hard hours to the point of causing me physical illness LOL. I've been especially proud of my son especially my two 1969 S Penny that I've been told by a few experts is legitimately double dies. But after reading a forum on here today I look like a complete goof according to your article would someone please explain to me why this is considered double die and some coins but not on the 1969 S this is going to really make me mad if I'm wrong and the few experts are wrong because it seems like everything is so darn confusing all the time so I can someone please explain

hope our expert members can help. Please use punctuation. Makes your posts easier to read and understand. I also modified your title to add the date and what you help you are looking for.

to CCF. Pics could be better but going by them I do not see a doubled die at all. If anything it looks like a worn die issue.

You claim (I think?) to have shown these to some experts ... these are NOT the famous 1969-S doubled die cent.

Either way, not THE double die for certain.

Here's something that might help. Here is a picture of an actual 69-s double die from PCGS.

Look at Liberty on this coin and compare it to yours. Hope it helps.

to the forum!

The images aren't clear enough to see for sure. The Machine Doubling seen on the date is close to what is found on some 1969-S DDO-002 cents.

Even if it does turn out to be the 002, it's a minor doubled die, not the famous 1969-S DDO-001 that is worth the big bucks.

I don't see any other doubling that would make me think this is a doubled die, but clearer images may help.

There are many experts out there that can't even tell the difference between a large and small date 1970-S and can't tell worthless doubling from a true doubled die. Some of these people are even coin dealers.

Thanks everybody for the replies I knew it wasn't the infamous double day that shows a clear huge doubling but I believe this to be called is pivot Machine Doubling am I not correct like a #5 or #6? I know what the infamous 1969 S is worth I just wanted to know what the machine style was worth that I have because I found a third one yesterday. The only question I had is How come one style of Doubling is more expensive than the other? Is the reason only because they caught it after 40,000 were already accidentally made and then they destroyed 20,000 of them or what I don't get it? that's all I was asking and no I didn't buy these I found these coin roll hunting. And I want to think CWB for his knowledgeable response and non-demeaning or snide reply you are a gentleman and a scholar my friend thank you.. I've only been collecting and searching for coins for six months and I feel I know more than some of you guys of been doing this for 15 years not say I do I just feel like it but I'll tell you this when the reasons why you guys can't get no new blood into this hobby is because of some of your guys comments when people ask questions you guys think you know it all and talk down to people all the time and then treat everyone as such..

Hey Dacone710.
I hope you did not take offense to my reply above. This community is very friendly and sometimes ppl make (intended to be) friendly sarcastic remarks. Stick around and you will see.
Either way I apologize if my remarks came across as snide.

Here is a webpage about the 1969-S Lincoln Cent: http://www.lincolncentsonline.com/1...20Cents.html
It has several pictures of real doubled dies and the MD's as well.
Here is just one photo to give you an idea of some of the MD cents you might find:

Some collectors will buy this type of doubling on ebay, but it is a striking error not a die variety.

I know I am no expert on doubled dies, but this has helped a lot to differentiate a doubled die versus Mechanical Doubling.

Also, the 1969 S coin has to look 100% identical to the doubled die 1969 S (below) in all doubled die areas to be the real deal.
