This addition leaves me one coin away from a full type set of early silver comemoratives, a quest I have been on over a lifetime of coin collecting. The Hawaiian half will need to be saved up for but it will be a focus for this new year.

A beautiful example Muddler. I'm four short and the big fat Hawaiian is one f those four, too.
At least you have the Lafayette in hand.

Most excellent muddler! Nice example! Congrats on your latest purchase. I look forward to seeing your future post about your "newly acquired" Hawaiian and your thoughts on having achieved a complete type set. I remember the first time my set was complete - the sense of accomplishment felt great after several years of collecting. Once or twice after that day the status of my set switched back to "Incomplete" as I worked through my upgrade plan, but such status never lasted very long. My 55-piece type and major variety set has been complete for years at this point and remains one of the three core collections in my cabinet.

Really nice coin muddler. It looks to be a raw (aka not TPG-slabbed), is that correct? As one who has yet to buy his first classic commem, but has his eye on several issues for potential purchase, can you advise on buying raw vs. graded? I understand many of these issues were frequently counterfeited. To you, commems, and others - How are you displaying these (e.g., Dansco album, etc.)?

@one_fine_dime, there are many of the commemorative halves that are fine to purchase raw such as the Columbian exposition, Booker Washington, Lexington, and Stone mountain to name a few. Others such as the Hawaiian, old Spanish trail, and Hudson should be purchased with the authenticity a TPG.

@Coinfrog, my set ranges from VF to MS66 with some cleaned and some scratched purchased in my youth. Favorites are the Oregon trail, Gettysburg, Antietam and Cincinnati but all are unique.
