The last digit of the date looks like an eight to me, rather than a three.

@bobisgr8, I agree with @alganbagrep and joseph7420. The coin was minted at Bydgoszcz and the attribution is Kopicki # 1937. For whatever reason, many of these six groschen coins did not fully strike up on the chin and neck area of the bust.

Why the star and crescent moon? To facilitate trade with the Ottomans?

The crescent and star was the coat of arms of J. A. Morsztyn, the State Treasurer at the time [ source in Polish where you can see the same symbol].

OK...so I'm a little confused, or maybe just dense. When I search NGC for Poland,1678, 6 Groschen ( https://www.NGCcoin.com/price-guide...-duid-286452}, I find the coin below. The reverse seems to match my coin but not the obverse, i.e., my coin has a laureate head, while the NGC coin has a crowned head. NGC does note that the pictured coin may not be the exact coin described although the description says "crowned head". NGC also notes that varieties exist. Would such variations go so far as to have a different bust? Have I missed something?

NGC does not list all coins on the planet. It is not a variation, it is a different type. Try same search on Google.

Thanks for the review...you really do have a good eye for detail.
Am I correct in understanding that all these variations were produced in the same year at the same mint? Any idea if these were intended or accidental variations?
