I'm not affiliated with the seller, but wow. Nothing but ear. That's a lot of circulation for a 1948.

Maybe bounced around the Yukon or NWT for a couple decades before somebody notices it was old?

This has taught me something about the design; the ear is more recessed than the rest of the profile. I'd have guessed the opposite if I'd stopped to think about it.

It does help seeing this just to have an idea of where the wear area progresses for this type.

I'm thinking this coin could use some more time in someone's pocket.

I would say it's a VG8/10. My 48 dollar is quite a bit more worn than that and I'd call it a G6/VG8 slider depending on the grading company.

The seller is in the UK. Perhaps it was "just another Canadian coin" in a jar of other world coins.

Yes, a very low mintage but I'm still dumbfounded
by the value of this coin

Well, imagine if a Morgan dollar had a mintage of 18780. Two MS62 1948s just sold on Heritage for about US$1700 ($2000 with BP), so the price range between just having one regardless, and having a nice UNC one, seems pretty narrow to me.

wow!
Over $1k for it - still!!

I would be open to lower grade coins of the harder to find stuff - but more often than not, that's really because it's the only way to get some of the rarer stuff at a more reasonable price.

I but I admit, my 1935-1967 silver dollar collection is spotty at best.
