Here is a 1/2 Öre from Sweden (Stockholm) dated (15)70 AD. I have it attributed as Ahl 78.

I like that later portrait of Zygmunt August with the forked beard. Gotta get me one eventually! (I have an earlier one that will post in two weeks or so). Quote: Marriage of king Philip II of Spain to Isabella of Valois 1c5d, now I get to say "Very nice portrait of Philip, and Isabella, too!"

Quote: Marriage of king Philip II of Spain to Isabella of Valois the legend REX CATHOLICUS should be noticed too ; obviously this Jeton was not made by the protestant rebels.

1568: 1 schilling from the Free City of Riga. These coins were also made in 1567, 1566, and 1565, but all coins from those dates have so far been out of my price-range, so I will not have any of these schillings to post for those dates.

Quote: the forked beard. Yes very distinctive! Here is a Groschen from the Swiss Canton of St. Gall dated (15)68 AD. It is attributed as HMZ 2-891g. In another CCF thread, we have been discussing the origins of the double-headed, tongued imperial eagle and I believe that St. Gall was among the first Swiss cantons to use this symbol.
