Hello Gentlemen it has been a while but I am back. Bought this Ben in an auction. After receiving the coin I noticed what might be a D/D on the mint mark. Any and all opinions are appreciated. Thank you to my members for looking.
Glad to be back for now.

Thanks for the response Roy,
You may very well be right as there is a bunch of hub doubling on this coin as well.

Your coin is showing classic machine damage on the devices. The affected area is flat, shelf like and the mint mark is reduced in size. (note the first two images) This often happens on larger coins. Usually seen on the 'HALF DOLLAR' area. But this occurs after the strike happens and a bounce or sliding of the dies damages the coin. They coin that struck your coin was normal, but the machine altered the devices. This is not a doubled die. As the doubling on a doubled die is on the die and not caused by machine damage to the devices. When compared with the same device on each you can see the differences:

The center image is the normal strike. The one on the left is a normal strike but after the strike the machine damaged the devices. The image on the right is showing a die that was hub doubled, making it a doubled die. (1983P-1DO-001)

Thanks Coop for the info. I do believe I had this lesson once before last year. Slow learner.
