Probably Spanish. Doesn't look very ancient to me, maybe 17th century. Not enough of an expert to say more.
You posted this in totally the wrong forum, however - if there's anything this is not, it's US modern variety.

Are we satisfied that this is an ancient coin? If so, we can move it to the Ancient forum for better exposure.

If the Philip II identification is true, then yes, it would be pre-1600 and thus appropriate for the Ancient subforum. Very similar coins of Philip III were made after 1600, though (in 1601 and 1602, apparently).
That said, I think the monogram is just different enough to be sure that this is not one of the Philip III coins; but it's hard to say.

Thanks to bobl I was able to locate this coin. It is Phillip II cob coin from 1598, again bobl I really appreciate the help.
