I picked this up yesterday, and I am hoping against all odds that it is original. Please share all of your thoughts. The pics are the best I was able to get. for some reason shiny copper is hard to properly capture. Edited by BigSilver 01/26/2017 12:19 am

The pics are tough to judge but that's a heck of a lot of red detail for '13-D! Do the surfaces look lacquered? It has a sheen to it that appears questionable. The detail looks close to MS and the color close to Red. Where did you acquire it?

Quote: Where did you acquire it? LCS. was labeled BU $100. I know the guy well and paid $55. If it is BU - I got a steal.

strictly from the photos the color looks questionable, especially considering the lack of luster and hint of circulation rub.
I'd be at AU-58, questionable color, but this really might need in-hand evaluation to be accurate.

I'm willing to bet this thing had a coke bath or something like that. Looks cleaned
EDIT: I'd like to see better pictures with reduced glare, though

@moxking Would you be willing to look at this in hand for me? I would ship it to you with a SASE to get your opinion.

Use a flat/matte black or dark/dull gray background and don't zoom as much.
I use a coffee filter over my LED light to take the bright edge off of the light.

Let me start off by saying that this coin was made from fairly fresh dies, that were spaced apart at just about the right distance. I don't see any obivious rub. Not saying it's not there, I just don't see it in these pics. The colors might be off because of the filters/editing. I guess the safe thing to say is that the color might be off. On the other hand I have seen coins in slabs that approach those colors. They are not so far off to be an automatic "No".

The new images don't have the lacquered appearance so thanks for confirming that. It's likely a cleaned AU++ piece but could be MS details. I'd give it a shot at ANACS or get ahold of BadThad and see if he'd look at it for you. Don't use a SASE, ship it in a padded mailer. Any way you dice it $55 sounds like a deal to me. It might have looked like this a few years ago: https://coins.ha.com/itm/lincoln-ce...Lot=1x=0&y=0

I agree that the color is slightly off . I do not see any circulation wear. the coin is uncirculated IMHO . If sent in , I'm sure you would get it back with questionable color .

If the red is true, it should have cartwheel luster which I'm not seeing. The coin appears to be quite flat which is indicative of a cleaning. I would call it a light cleaning and for $55, it seems the dealer thinks so too.
