Is that stuff on the rooster damage with gold underneath or some sort of plating coming off? It is hard to tell from the picture.

Yeah it could be a fake with the gold flaking off. I have a few of those in my collection of counterfeits. I sure wish I had this piece so I could report back. Maybe the OP can get accurate weights and measures. Those could reveal something.

it was the angle and the lighting that made it look like that I can give you the weight as soon as I find my digital scales

its weighs 3.22 it bounces bake and forth to 3.23

The weight is OK, so we can probably assume it's genuine. However, with that "roadkill" damage, it will have no collector premium - so any value it has beyond sentiment is only in the gold content.
