I am trying to use PayPal for the first time, but I keep running into errors when trying to send a payment. Can anyone help? I've already linked my bank account and my Visa debit card.

I think I remember PayPal having to cycle through a minimal, less-than-a-Dollar payment to start a new account. I had to go find the deposit and reply back to their email with the amount, etc... Maybe it will just take you a day to get through all the steps.
Good luck.

I've had trouble a couple of times and if I recall correctly, the first time I used it, it just didn't seem to want to work at all -- until the next day. The next day I tried it first thing in the morning and everything was fine. Go figure.
Contact the seller and let them know that you're having trouble.

I never had to give my SSN. So -- that's a bit puzzling to me.

Call Pay Pal customer service as they are helpful in getting new accounts set up and working.

Quote: Call Pay Pal customer service as they are helpful in getting new accounts set up and working. OK, I guess that sounds like the best idea. Fortunately, I have a very patient seller.

Coin197!!! And all others. I cringed when you said send them your SSN! NEVER, NEVER put out over the internet that info, way too dangerous with all the email hacks...even if you trust the site, i.e. Amazon, over 1mil accounts. Ugh !!

I would make sure you are dealing with PayPal and not a phishing site. Did you go to PayPal directly or click on a link?

I recently changed some settings with my PayPal account, which I haven't used in years. Adding my SSN was optional, not mandatory. Like Crazyb0 said, always be hesitant to give out that information. Even if I'm in the bank and they want my SSN, I write it out and hand it to the employee so another customer can't overhear. Then I get the slip of paper back and toss it.
Kevin is also correct. When you first set up PayPal, they authenticate your bank info by depositing a few cents into you bank account. I think you confirm that amount to fully launch your account.
(Unrelated, coin197, but I've allowed emails, like you asked in the grading thread. I'm stepping out for a bit, but I'll try to get in touch with you this evening about your ANACS hook up.)

If I recall correctly, PayPay froze my account a few months back until I provided my SSAN.

I am trying to send the money through the actual PayPal site. Not through ebay or Amazon.
