Just looking for an opinion from the collectors of this series. I was in a LCS today picking up supplies and took a quick look through the junk silver since they were about to close. I saw some UNC looking Roosevelt dimes. Should I go back tomorrow and buy them? I'm not familiar with the series, so I don't know key dates, but I'm assuming nothing would be in there with junk. (I only caught a few worn S and O mint marks in the junk Morgans, so they seemed to know what they were doing.) I think there were a few in the sixties, and a pretty good looking 1946. Indistinct torch on a 1964, but what looked like a FT on a 1946 and 1962. I'm leaning towards buying, then having you guys give opinions on grades. Not a bad gamble for a buck and a half, right?

90% silver is at 12.7 x face value. UNC rolls have a slight premium for common date. 15x is a little bit high.

How much were they charging for junk Morgans? I wouldn't pay 15x for those UNC dimes, unless 1946.

Oh, they weren't rolls. They were loose, mixed in with circulated Rosies and Mercury dimes. He said they were selling at two bucks above spot. I haven't check with other LCS, so I'm not sure of the going rate. Are you able to find it closer to spot?

Junk Morgans and Peace were $20 each. Lower than your guy, but nothing in fantastic condition. I didn't look closely at all of them, but they topped out around XF40-45 is my guess. 1921s went to AU, but common date anyway.

Yes, my guy charged $35 each, but they started at AU 55/58 and topped out at MS 65. My guy was also selling common Morgan and Peace dollars for $22, which started at AG 3 and topped out at MS 62.

Consensus is no, then?
Coin, I'll ask you for the Denver coin hot spots next time I'm visiting. I've actually never been to the Denver mint, just Philly a few times.

Druu....I wouldn't want to buy an entire roll of them at that price...but if there are two or three really nice examples in there I would certainly spend $4.50 on three nice examples without hesitation. Just cause I liked them.

$1.50 for truly UNC silver Roosevelts isn't a bad deal. That's $75 a roll. With that said 1964 is by far the most common of the silver issues.

I don't have any great affinity towards them. I just noticed shiny uncirculated stuff in the junk bin and was intrigued.

1.50 is a tad high for stacking. if you have holes in an album that need filling then go for it

Melt at the time of this reply, 90% dime $1.26 and Morgan $13.51. Silver went up a few days ago and has held within a few cents. Just FYI.

Thanks Jovian. I saw that it was $1.27 for the dime last night. I use this site to calculate the silver value of US coins: http://www.australian-coins.com/sil...coin-values/ The shop stated that they sell their junk silver at spot plus two bucks, which came out to the high $1.40s, or just under one fifty.
