I'm in absolute SHOCK right now... yesterday afternoon I went to one of my banks... My teller always saves CWR for me when he gets them... anyways, he showed me two plastic tubed rolls of nickels a customer had just brought in when cleaning up a place. Needless to say, I took them right away. He didn't think there was anything special in them, and when you opened the tops, the coins at the top didn't seem out of the ordinary. I did notice though that one roll had several coins which looked kind of dark on the edges... I threw open that roll and let out a yell... Turned out the roll had 44 coins in it and the 40 War Nickels sat below the 4 coins topping the roll. Interestingly, there were no 1943-Ps or 1945 dated coins in the batch. The breakdown: 1942-P (5) 1942-S (4) 1943-D (1) 1943-S (12) 1944-P (10) 1944-D (2) 1944-S (6) Yes, a full roll of silver coins... my first EVER find of one for any denomination... so I knocked off that milestone! BTW, the other roll turned out to be all BU 1964 (38) and 1964-D (2) nickels. It's been a crazygood year for me so far, and it just seems to keep getting better and better! Nice find. Are you going to look for errors/varieties? John1

Thanks, John1. Well, I'm keeping the War Nickels... I'll check them for errors/varieties at some point. As for the roll of 1964s, I will be checking them for those and will put the "normal" ones up on ebay. I have a few BU '64 Philly coins floating around so I'll be able to complete a roll.

You owe that teller a box of chocolates or something. Glad those coins ended up with a collector. Enjoy.

Nice haul I know that the '64 nickels are home to the "PLURIDUS" variety from an over polished die, but I have never found one out of thousands searched. Hopefully you might get some full step '64s!

Awesome pickup... I'm winning an auction for a roll of War Nickels which I'm hoping I get it for under melt...

Excellent score! Maybe I should move up beyond penny roll hunting. It's just that if I search a whole box of something else, I come up with bubkus. And that's a lot of cash for my Amazon fund.
