Hi all,
I'm 24 hrs newbie on this forum.. I'm hoping to find out some more info on this 1969 round 50cent coin. Weight 14.17grams 80% + silver. It has slight dodecagonal plachet stike. Any ideas?

A round 1969 50c coin doesn't exist.
What you have there is PMD (Post Mint Damage) someone has ground off the rim of the coin to make it circular.
The coin is also Not Silver it is copper/nickel.

I thought the same but you can feel the weight in the coin and it's weight is over the standard 13.28 grams of the 1966. This coin is 14.17 grams.

A normal 1969 50c weighs 15.55g your coin weighs 14.17 which sounds about right because of the metal removed to make a round coin

Thanks for the reply you are most probably right. It's just confusing as this coin has a tone an weighted feeling of a silver coin. Is there any way to test the metals of the coin to be sure.?

So I've done the ice cube test you can clearly see that round 50c coin melts quicker and in different way than original 1969 dodecagonal 50c. Also the ping test - the ping is higher pitched an goes for longer. I think I might have this coin looked at by a professional.

You can see that there are traces of the 12 sides left on the reverse. Weight does not match the original 1966 silver planchet. On top of this, the edge is "smooth".

I am certain this is unlikely to be silver - silver coins tend to wear off however this looks like there are plenty of hard knocks which is more consistent of nickel-copper.
