What is your collecting interest? Cents, Nickels, current coins, old coins, etc?

Your question is far too broad for us to give any sensible answer. The only thing we can say for sure is that numismatics is FAR too broad to collect everything. You have to narrow it down within your interests and budget.

Any collection of anything done right can look great.

A few questions to ask yourself:

1. US or foreign or exonumia?
2. Collect by types or by years, and how far back do you want to go?
3. Varieties or not?
4. Circulated or uncirculated?
5. Base metals or precious metals?
6. What coins do you like (what designs do you like)?
7. Errors or not?

Are you asking what you might find in pocket change or what to look for in a coin shop or at a show?

Start by trying to find any Canadian Cents dated after 2013. Don't try collecting Mercury dimes. I like those and there are already to many people saving those.
Start with Jefferson nickels. You can still get lots of those in change.
