Same coin in both pictures.
Would be interesting to forward this link to GSC so they can read about their screwup and maybe learn something. $40000 is a lot of money left on the table for not being educated on what you are selling.
Lol! Couldn't happen to a nicer outfit!

This coin is not going to stand as a PR as it appears to be a label error or PCGS grading error. Check out the photos of another Proof cent. The rims are not even close. $56 Coin PR66 Coin from coin facts

They are the same coin but I'm not really seeing any of the pups on the GSC images but no surprise there. I wonder if it's a lucky blind pick for the winning bidder? Looking at the PCGS plates I think I can make out the die scratch of the B in LIBERTY. I think I read somewhere that the proof dies may have been used for business strikes.

Definitely the same coin, but I don't know enough about early Lincolns to guess whether it's a proof. There's a stark difference in the rims of the coins posted by Slider.

Quote: There's a stark difference in the rims of the coins posted by Slider Maybe it's the lighting but the actual PR66 Lincoln's bust seems to have much more detail to it also.

Heck of a story. The experts on the PCGS forum are pretty convincing though, it's not a proof.

The rims really do look different. Am in the "not a proof camp" now

I agree, it IS NOT a proof. Most likely a labeling mistake.

Nah, just call it mechanical error and move on. And they are the same coin. Same finger print looking area in the right obv, same damaged area by the rim below the date.

That's a huge mistake if some slab buyer goes for it. Good thing I don't have 40 grand to throw away.

Would the PCGS guarantee work in a case like this and compensate an unfortunate buyer the difference in value/ buy back the proof for 40K? Or would they try to get out of it by calling the mistake an obvious clerical error...

It's definitely the same coin; compare the contact marks, and see that they're identical for "both" coins.
