I just received a purchase of 4 incomplete cent folders and 3 incomplete nickel folders. I will be slowly sorting through them but thought this one was worth posting for grading opinions.

Secondary Question: I won't be sending it in but, if I did, would toning (not as apparent in the images) always relegate it to RB instead of RD?

Fields look pretty clean and I don't see wear except maybe on the rim. MS-63, IMHO.

Yes, this will always be an RB - until it goes all brown. It looks like you've got some Thad-Juice on it, though, so it might be stable.

The metal has an interesting blended look. I wonder if that's from the military used-brass source. Hmmm..

This came out of a folder starting in 1941 that I believe was being put together quite a while ago. I think the toning is a result of being in the folder for so long.

I took it out, soaked in acetone using a q-tip after removal from the bath. I have not used Verdi-Care on it.

I agree it looks very shiny, but I don't see anything odd in hand, just a very nice looking cent.

Thanks everyone for the input!

I'm 99% positive this coin was placed in the folder more than 50 years ago and has remained there until I got it.

MS-64-RB because I do not see the contact marks or minor blemishes as "noticeably detracting".

I trust spruett's assessment that the coin-in-hand does not look cleaned and polished.

MS-65 No trace of wear; nearly as perfect as MS-67 except for some small blemish. Has full mint luster but may be unevenly toned or lightly fingermarked. A few minor nicks or marks may be present.

MS-63 A Mint State coin with attractive mint luster, but noticeable detracting contact marks or minor blemishes.

Thanks for the vote of confidence dd27, but I do see a couple of detracting marks for me. They are not so noticeable in hand but they are the mark on the "N" in "ONE" and the mark below Lincoln's chin. But, maybe I've looked at it too much and am being self-debasing.

I'm completely happy with a '44 MS-63RB coming from this folder!

There's a lot more to go through.

The rims are pretty worked-over and the wheat lines show some wear.

AU-55

The good news, the coin is easily replaced. These are cheap in high MS grades.

I'm interested in the color/surface concerns so I took some more pics with some rudimentary semblance of a lighting set-up to see if it helps.
