Hi everybody, I know I might get negitive comments but I really just want a truthful answer without a lecture. When I was younger my Geat Grandpa taught me how to make Spoon and Coin jewlery. He had made My Mom a ring as A gift when She Survived Breast Cancer for the second time. That was 8 years ago. Recently My Mom was going in to have a MRI and Put her Jewlery in the glove box. Well Someone broke in and it was stolen along with Other stuff. She was Devistated more about the ring than the Cd's, Cash and Other jewelry she had. So my Brother brought me a silver 1963 no mint mark quarter and asked me to make her a ring for mother's day. My question is.... is there anything specific for that year I should look for that makes it worth keeping and find another one? I don't see any errors. Please I want to do this for her Please don't try to talk me out of seemingly destroying a coin because its worth it for her I just don't want to use a coin worth $1000 when I can use one worth $10. Thank you for any info you have.

Making a ring for your mother is a fantastic use for a 1963 quarter. Best of luck to you and your mother. The only thing that I can think of on a 1963 quarter is the type B reverse, but even that would not make it worth so much more....

Angie , To CCF , the 1963 quarter would be an very good choice for your Mothers ring . 90% silver and a value of about $3.25 .

If this is a circulated coin, like was said already, that date is common and only worth silver melt value. You might look to see if it's a type B reverse and there were a few doubled dies in 1963, but while making it a cooler coin and a bit of a premium on the value, that would not be a show stopper to use it and in fact might enhance the gift.
