I think ebay has cracked down a bit.. I know of someone that would sell older $100 bills or fancy serial or star notes with shipping of $100 and bid starting at 0.99..... that was over 10 years ago, not sure if that would still fly. They pointed out shipping cost in bold in the posting... don't think they ever had complaints

I charge $5.80 per small package and if I can fit more than one coin at a time in the package without going over size or weight I will combine the shipping to $5.80. My costs are $2 postage $3.80 registered sticker and $1.05 for the padded mailer, I am already "Eating" the $1.05 for the mailer. $5.50 is NOT an outrageous postage charge at all

Jdmern... As per the comments from the OP the S&H was supposed to be $2.95 + .75 for each additional coin per the ebay listing. If so, the total should have been $4.45. The Seller charged him $5.50. The Seller owes the Buyer $1.05 and needs to get himself a new calculator.

I'm a stickler for checking on shipping before purchasing. I've avoided many auctions because of exorbitant pricing, & I've even talked sellers into lowering their fees successfully. ebay has no say in this, nor should they. If the consumer/buyer doesn't like the fees, they shouldn't purchase from the seller, JMHO.

As a seller, things can go the opposite way. I recently made a transaction with a buyer in norway. I had promised a specific type of shipping (in this case priority flat rate small box) and my frr was listed at $25. The actual cost was $33. I ended up eating $8, plus gas, plus packaging, plus airtite coin container. Do I have any recourse? Of course not am I mad, no, it was my fault for charging a flat fee.

I am sometimes quite shocked at the prices some eBayers charge for overseas postage. I wanted to buy a small French coin costing about 8 euros and the postage charge was 10 euros! I sent a private message to the seller and he agreed to send the coin via normal airmail post for less than 2 euros, at my own risk. The coin arrived safely. So it may be worth sending a personal message. In my case the seller had re-advertised the coin at least twice and was probably happy to get rid of it.

They wised up and that is ineffective to avoid fees now.

If I put them in the same package, I don't charge extra for the other coins, unless it's going to go over the maximum weight.

At the same time, I will still stick with my assertion that $1.05 is neither a scam nor 'ridiculous money'

I agree that many sellers over change for shipping and cannot properly Pack coins. First class mail is like $2.60 for 13 oz in the US and Usps small flat rate box includes insurance and is around 5.90 for up To 70 pounds weight! The poor packing, loose coins bouncing around for 1000 miles with Overpriced shipping is par for the course on ebay... Couple that with Bad pictures and over grading... It's like a race between the dishonest and the incompetent...

I believe Different people see things from different perspectives and through their own filters and experiences. As such, it is important that everybody's opinion counts. I thought perhaps due to such open interaction and discussion as a community, we could come up with innovative new ideas or solutions to existing problems. This gives us the ability to enhance or improve on what we have and to differentiate. Only then can any Entrepanur stay ahead of the competition. My intentions were not to offend anyone!

Jdmern, I think first class went from 2.45 to around 2.60. In any event It is not expensive and shipping should not be a profit center. Also I have found many sellers on ebay over grade, over charge for Shipping and pack coins very poorly.

$1.05 is not a LOT of money, but in this case it is about 24% over their stated shipping charge and is in excess of the stated shipping charge. On principal alone, I would politely ask (not allege they are making ridiculous money and charging "whopping" amounts) for the seller to refund the overcharge. Quote: Yes to be fair I can see 20-50c over the actual cost to cover envelop. So the envelope is the only thing you can see a seller charging more for? ebay states that sellers can charge for actual shipping charges, handling (which includes the envelope, packing materials, insurance, and tracking fees). Costs for a seller's employees wages to do the packing and shipping are also legitimate additions to the handling charges. That said, this seller determined their charge for the three dimes to be $4.45 and that is all you should have to pay. If they aren't charging enough, then that is their problem.
