You are probably better off hunting down copper, pre-82 pennies (now worth 2c) and hoarding all nickels (now worth 7c). Sure there is a ban on melting but once they introduce the sone to change penny and nickel in chaeper base metals they will repel the law and then it's time to retire. Okay, maybe not. :)

The problem with Texas or at least the Houston Area is that Brinks supplies most of the financial institutions with their change so you end up dumping back to the same supplier as you receive from.

I am now up to searching 4 boxes per week, and there isn't that much to find. Did four boxes yesterday and got 4 90% and 21 40%. Upped my order to six boxes for next week, and will eventually go up to 10. But, went around to smaller towns in the area looking for customer rolls one day last week and found 5 90% and 27 40% at one bank alone (33 rolls). So, it is out there, but you have to work for it!

A friend of mine picked up $200 in halves today from the bank.

Found 3 90%s and a 1908 that I'm going to see tonight when I'm over his house.

I on the other hand finished up a box and didn't even get one 40% Kennedy.

It's just the luck of the draw.

My roughest stretch was 10 boxes of nothing with halves and I was about to give up when my next two boxes each had fifty silver pieces. Most were 40%, but each box had one Franklin and a Walker in it. You never know what you will find. It is encouraging when you have a dry spell and then all of a sudden you have a good find. That type of luck is why this hobby will never die!

Pulled a 90% out of a box last night along with two 66 Kennedys.
So it took me 4 boxes to find any silver.

I'll pick another box up this week and hope my luck carries over.

Hit another town yesterday. Searched $1300 in rolls and found 17 40's and 1 1964. Still like the odds better going through the rolls at the bank, but will start ordering when I run out of banks in my 'area'.

I agree that it is a gamble. Found no correlation between the amount that a bank has and the quality of the finds. I must be in relative virgin territory out here in the badlands.

Congratulations Avatar!

I'm in the middle of a streak similar to Silver Eagle's; only one 40% in my last 10 boxes. But in the last week in customer rolls I've found a total of 9 90% and 28 40%. So, at the moment for me, small town bank customer rolls are the way to go.

Dont get discouraged....obviously there is someone else or multiple people in your area that are searching too (hence the marked coins). I know the bank I go to and order coins from told me that one guy is doing two boxes a week. I ordered two anyway, and found 3 40% halves. Kind of disappointing yes, but better than nothing. And someone searching had marked a bunch of the coins on the edge with a black marker including the ones I found so he missed them altogether by edge searching. I almost did too because they are clad like the normal ones. Good luck!

It's only getting more difficult because it's becomming such a popular/obsessive sport now !......it's hard to find a place where others haven't gone before!........eventually all we'll find is other people's "dump stations" I fear!
