Well, I'm needing some words of encouragement! I've searched through about 6 boxes of Kennedy half dollars and have found NO silver! I still order the boxes thinking, maybe this one will be the jackpot. I get 3 more boxes tomorrow. I sure hope I find some soon I've been keeping all BUs from the boxes though, so at least I've been able to do something with them. I've got some really nicely toned ones (especially Bicentennials) and several 2006, a few 2002. Do you think my luck will get better? I sure hope so Wish me luck, Laura

you can really say that your luck will get better or worse. Its a hobby that is pure "luck" No pun intended. Also, just keep in mind that the more you search, the higher your chances. Try switching banks. Thats what I did when I didnt find any silver at a particular bank.

Maybe you could get less than $500 and ask for customer-wrapped rolls. I got 2 cutomer-wrapped rolls last week and found 4 40% silver's. Even though 4 is not that much, it sure beats none

I went thru $630 worth of customer wraos yesterday, $490 from one bank, and $140 from another. The $490 was somebody's dump, as was cleaned out, but the $140 had 3 %40, and 2 %90 (one 64 kennedy, and one franklin). So the day wasn't a total bust. I hate boxes, very low output.

My impression is that Texas is extensively searched area. Am I right?

I've searched $190 worth and found only a few 1964, a roll (all together in one roll) of pretty good looking Bi-centennials and 40 or so 1965-1969. All the rest were 1970-1974....No 2000 series at all.... All were customer wrapped.
Keep hunting! They're out there....patience....!

Scott3270 - Go to a bank and ask for them. You can ask for what they have on hand or request that they order them for you (comes in boxes of $500 but you could buy it a bit at a time).
Eyeluvcoins - Maybe you've dried up all the silver in your area. Search something else for a while. Most banks don't like to keep tons of halves in the vault. They like to send them away to other places. After a few weeks maybe the silver will come back.

Actually you are correct - its all gone. Just stop looking now, there is no point. THERE IS NO SILVER LEFT. Just start keeping copper cents from now on. Searching for silver is a waste of time, money, and gas. The bottom is getting ready to fall out of the silver market anyway.
(Note to self: call bank and order 4 boxes)

This topic is perfect for me. I have been going through boxes for about a week now and at first I was getting silver and NIFC's but recently nothing. My thinking is that I am using someones dump bank... I am going to try to switch banks and see how that works out.

Texas may well be extensively searched but I still find one or two %40 in the average box and the occasional 90%

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I get my 3 boxes today and will let you know what I find .... or, don't find. I am in central Texas and I think I'm up against alot of roll searching competition because I see black ears, intentionally scratched up coins, red paint, blue paint, small stickers, etc. The last 3 boxes were the absolute worst! I haven't given up yet, though. Laura

Laura........ Not only is "silver hunting" popular now in "your" area or "my" area.......but I've even found, since joining this forum, that there are a HALF DOZEN OR SO "FORUM MEMBERS" in my immediate area ! ......SO ....as newbies get introduced into this pursuit on here.........we're increasing our own competition!.. funny and unbelievably enough !.....

I must say that it is definitely a numbers game. I Found two Bens and a forty pecenter in my first box then worked two more and only got one forty percenter. Keep it up and you will find them!!
