Hey y'all, would like your opinions about this 1977 Roosevelt dime that appears to have markings that kinda looks like stitches on his cheek. Or is just another case of wear and tear. Thanks-Slymer

Looks like some sort of PSD. John 1

They look like they were pressed into something that left some raised areas. I found something like that on some 2011 cents that I still have not figured out. There were clash marks as they don't match anything on the overlay: But I found several of them in the rolls, so it is not a contact mark, but a die issue of some sort. Maybe Feeder Finger Damage that was real sever into the bust design? Now it looks like I'm going to have to find them again.......

thank you for replying . also noticed a few more things that may be wrong with the coin or I am probably seeing things, once again. the ear and ear lobe look a bit thicker than the norm. and also on the date 1977, the 9 and 7 looks like they have an extion at the bottom connecting to their respected numbers. if you see 'em as well let me know. and if you don't let me know that I am crazy. thanks - Slymer

So I'm assuming the "stitch" marks are raised?
I was first thinking marks from another dime's edge reeds but they would have to be incuse in that case.
I can't tell about your other questions. The pic is pretty dark.

They could be bag marks, caused by freshly struck eject coins dropping from the minting press.

The marks do raise up and are what seems to be having the same distance between each other

So it must be a die issue. The only things I can come up with is very unusually placed Feeder Finger Damage or the die was effected when striking a reeded coin on edge but, I find it hard to believe that the coin could make an impression on the steel die. It doesn't make sense for a die clash. Hub defect/damage?

Just because they are raised, doesn't mean always a die job. Note the incuse marks beside the affected area on the OP's coin. To me it looks like something with holes was pressed onto the surface of the coin. The metal moved to fill the holes, the the raised area inside the incuse area. PSD

the OP's coin looks to have incuse areas next to the raised areas. I think the raised areas are displaced metal. Coop I think the same is true of your second picture of the ear. I'm not sure where on the coin your first pic is, maybe a clash?

The first one is on the cheek. But I found a few in examples of these in these rolls. Now I wish I knew what roll they were in. LOL

I have no clue as to the first one, I suppose if you found others it was on the die. Like you said, it doesn't match for a clash. I guess something foreign affected the die, but I don't know what it could have been. Hopefully one day I'll be able to find the time to learn more of the minting processes. As far as finding that roll, hahaha good luck. I suspect you marked it at least by date, but I also suspect you have a lot of them. Just not enough hours in the day. As for me, I spend a good part of the day up to my neck in coins, then for my down time, I'm on here up to my neck in coins. I'm sure my story is not unique.
