Very nice but for the large, deep gash above the left side of the motto. AU details - scratched.

AU55BN and I am not sure that is not a lamination flaw or planchet defect - looks almost like a peel. You can see part of the top of "G" inside the damaged area, and this series was famous for die breaks, strike problems, etc.

That's a planchet flaw, not a scratch or gash, although it is distracting.

i dont know what I was thinking when I graded this coin AU55. a closer look does not show any wear and the grade given is the correct grade. I probably rushed the grade on it...my bad

I kind of agree, after looking at it a bit closer, I don't see wear either, I do see some stuff on the reverse that concerns me and don't think it would make a 63 holder today at PCGS or NGC, probably not even at ANACS. I'm thinking some old light corrosion or verdigris> Hard to tell in the photos.

I too am always a sucker for Two Cent Pieces though, I like this one for the lamination flaw alone. I've seen a few others with a very similar flaw in the same spot, not owning or having any photos I saved at hand, I wonder if something got stuck in the strip pressing machine and possibly got put onto more than one planchet. If I had a photo of one I remember we could compare to see if the die pair matched up. A mystery - the kind that intrigues me with the series.

If I get some time I'll hop over to the photography thread and get some pointers on how to shoot copper and for that matter prooflike and dmpl silver coinage ha.
