I'm not sure, but if it were an error I think it would be called and interior die break. It's way too big to be a chip.

Although, it may be a plating bubble waiting to burst. If you press on it with a toothpick, does it give? If so, it's a plating bubble from zinc rot underneath. If it's solid, then you may have something.

Edit: That would be a prime place for underlying zinc rot caused by splitting of the thin copper layer around the date and mintmark, so I'm leaning toward that.

Looks like someone lost their screen cursor! I'm w/ plating issue/bubble, how MM has curled up and is extended UNDER the date?

Zinc rot is a dustlike substance that if contained, could harden the underneath some. What usually happens is like a boil, once the outer layer is removed, the yuck comes out leaving a hole. Know you guys have seen zinc rot holes and edge deterioration on zincoln before!

Gas under the plating. It you pressed downward on this area with a toothpick, it would press down.
