I've read all I could find about sintered planchets and annealing errors. From what I understand, there can't be a sintered cent because the planchet was either made of copper or copper plated zinc. Looking at this coin, I'm assuming it's just a plating flaw? (The copper is oddly red, and acetone does not remove the dark bits on the coin.) I crossed out zinc rot since there's none of the plating bubbling associated with that, and the bit of zinc peeking through doesn't look oxidized.

Basically, I just want to know if I can peel away at this cent, or if it's worth saving. Thanks.

I'm torn between throwing on ebay for 99 cents as a laugh, peeling it to see how much I can get off the obverse, or trying to find a solvent that will eat away the zinc and leave me with a copper shell. Btw Crazy, did you actually get the B mintmark " War Nickel"? I remember seeing that someone found it CRHing.

Cents are softened. So it can't be that. Look more like a stain. Save your money, it is worth one cent. Spend it.
