I wouldn't be able to stomach selling my lifetime collection. Someone else will have to do it when I'm gone!

Sounds like, either they didn't have the rare/expensive coins or someone has already pulled and sold those.

I plan to either sell mine before I leave this world, or have Forum Dad sell them for my relatives.

Tough to sell something like this on ebay. THAT is a lot of money to lay on the line without seeing the coins.

If it sells, I will be surprised.

I wish the Seller well as he fights his health issues.

If I end up with a collection like that at their age and health conditions, I don't think I'd have a problem selling it.

But, why ebay?! They must be aware of auction houses, right?

Rest in Peace

I don't understand why the shipping charge is $450 even with insurance ? 5 LARGE flat rate boxes are what - $57 .

ONE box shipped Registered insured for $25,000 is $50.

And the large flat rate boxes are $18.85 each. five boxes would be $94.25 but it is the insurance that would eat you up on those. Insurance for each box (assuming $5,000 in declared value in each box) is 64.15 per box. So it comes to $83 per box, postage and insurance. Now you know where he got his $450 figure.

We actually have two people that have it in their will for Susan to sell their collection when they pass and send the money to the attorney so they can split it up.

Looks like quite the collection... sad that they have cancer and that no one in their family has any interest in coins.

Does anyone want to make a guess as to whether it would be "worth it", in the sense of what would it cost to buy all this retail? For instance, just considering the silver dollars, if we assume that they are all at least VF, retail is about $10,000.

Not that I plan to bid, but I am just curious. Of course, if the seller provided just a few pictures with a listing of the 20 or so most valuable coins, it would make it a much easier sell. The fact that it was not is suspicious. I think that anyone who is prepared to bid want's to know what they are getting, not gamble on possible value.

I'm sure they would have much better luck with an auction for each book with pictures of the contents.
Perhaps they will try that next time.
Wishing them well tho.

Auction was pulled. They either changed their mind on venue or selling it period or they were sold privately.

@coin197, I believe ebay only charges a maximum of $500 per sale unless that's changed. You can sell a $100k coin and their take is only $500

While it would take more time, he could get a LOT more by selling the good coins individually. That's an awful lot of money to be asking when we arent even shown a close up of anything. For all we know, those albums might be empty. I'm not saying that I think they're empty, but he could get a lot more money for his stuff he he just put some time into selling his stuff.
