Devin, just not enough left to determine either way for certainty. #2 I can almost see a downward swing on left indicating an "S". Try this, done it with SLQ's. Stick your finger in car's tailpipe or charcoal grill, get the soot and rub there, sometimes there enough microridges left to pullou a mm or date?

There is simply not enough left to tell. But put them on ebay as: Possible 1916 D Dime, judge for yourself! and someone will probably pay you $30 for it.

One thing for sure is they are real. If fakes made in China, would be a lot, lot better quality.

You could try acid dating it, use 75% vinegar and 25% hydrogen peroxide. Leave em in there for 24 hours and see if they need more time or not.

@childofthewheat, I am testing your method right now. I have more silver to acid treat!

Personally I wouldnt leave it in for 24 hours right away.... Also i'd start with a watered down mixture... No results are better than too much etching

In my opinion the first Dime looks like a D ,and the second one looks like an S .

By the way, nss52, thank you for the picture. As you can see, the position of the D on the coin you posted looks like #1.

Both of the coins look like the mint mark is an "S" to me. The coins are very worn. What is unanimous judgement of the grade of these coins. If you can read the date but not the mint mark are they AG? The mint mark means everything with a 1916 Mercury dime. I am just making a guess about the mint mark. I would not bet ten dollars on my opinion.

I too also think they are both S mint marks. They are so worn down it's really difficult to tell with 100% accuracy
