This is actually not an uncommon theme, usually with Jefferson's or the Indian's face simply being rendered as skeletal. As regards this duo, the carving in each case is rather more original and extensive.

The upper one was done by John Hughey, who specializes in these "skull" types (see: http://hobonickels.org/johnhughey.html & especially https://www.pinterest.com/dechristo...hughey-john/ where this & some similar pieces are pictured) I don't know at all who's reponsible for the other.

Colligo ergo sum

The first one is nice-a complete departure from the normally seen garbage that's so prevalent on ebay.

I've always wanted to get my hands on one of these. Lucky for me, there is a big coin show about thirty minutes away from where I live, so I'll see if I can get one this weekend.

YES. I. DO. He does carvings that are part of either a skull series or what he calls a "freaky face" series. The freaky faces have a much broader scope of uniqueness. The skull series of carvings come in either an "economy" version or a "premium" version.

This new topic is the perfect excuse for me to re-share my skull coins.
