Crazy...
This, along with the other note, came from a dealer friend of mine up in Oklahoma.
Since I collect signatures I had to have this one of Morganthau's. The prior oldest I had was Connolly's on a $1 Fed.
One of the signatures on the back is John "Polo" Clark. He was the first to advocate for a two plane formation of a leader and a single wingman instead of a three plane formation of a leader and two wingmen.
I suspect this note was a short snorter on a ferry flight from the mainland to Europe with a stopover in Gander Newfoundland during the early War years.
Most likely, the owner pulled it out of his wallet and asked Morgenthau to sign it when he met him somewhere else down the road. (That's a guess.)
