In large bag of Pennies recently purchased I found this 1953 Penny that has these small little dings on both Obverse and Reverse of coin visible to the eye, but much smaller on obverse. The D in GOD appears to be missing but under a loupe you can see one single straight line of the letter D but nothing else of the letter. This is what caused me to think this might be an error coin rather than after the circulation cause. Any clues or thoughts?

It appears to me that it got shot, maybe by a BB gun.

The reason you might still be able to see part of the D is that the devices are raised and would require a greater impact to completely obliterate than the fields would.

A bb was my first thought too, but I think I'm going to have to experiment and shoot a few pennies with my bb gun to see the effect. I think these dings are smaller than what a bb will make. I wonder if I'll be able to see it though don't want to the bb to shoot my eye out if I'm too close.

Remember modern cents are zinc with copper plate - hence the impact likely will be different. Also know that not all BB guns are created equal, and that the further from the gun, the less the dent in the penny.
