@jbuck (re. acetone for ink on 1861 half dollar): I haven't tried that, not an expert and worried I might damage the coin. That one is in a PCGS slab now though, so the ink blot is probably there to stay, at least for the time being...

Acetone would be okay, it does not react with the metal. However, probably best to just leave it in the slab.
